The returning coaching staff of Tom Stremlau, Sr. and Tom Stremlau, Jr. is dedicated to helping the young players develop good volleyball technique that will build a solid foundation for their volleyball future and teach it in a fun and positive atmosphere. Tom, Sr. is CAP I certified and starting his ninth year with the club and has coached youth volleyball for the past 17 years, starting in boys' programs at the CYC level and continuing with boys' teams for St. Louis VBC and Genesis.  Tom Jr. got his start in volleyball in 1989 and this will be his fourth year with the club.  He has extensive coaching experience with youth teams and has attended several clinics. In addition to IMPACT certification, he also holds a US Soccer "F" coaches license.  The coaches are committed to coaching volleyball in a fun, and positive manner.  They are seeking self-motivated, interested players with a positive attitude who like to compete against the top clubs in the area.  They anticipate playing in numerous local and up to three out of town tournaments, with the goal of playing in a national tournament at the end of the year.
Girls 12's
The 12's team is a new team for the club.  It will be coached by Tara Schuler, Tanya Schuler and Kim Bourisaw.  Tara is IMPACT certified.  This is her first year as a coach and she is very excited to share her love for and knowledge of the game.  She has played volleyball at the CYC level for 4 years and select level for 6 years.  Tanya is Impact certified.  It is her first year coaching.  She was a player on the first Angel team.  Kim is also Impact certified and a former original Angel.  They both played for 5 years with SCVBC and 3 years with another club prior to the Angels.  The team will practice 2 nights a week.  They plan to play 2 to 3 tournaments a month with a possibility of 1 to 3 out of town tourneys.  They are looking for players with a positive attitude and willing to work hard.  They plan to focus on good fundamentals and working together as a team.
Girls  13’s
The 13’s team  will be coached by Mike Gorla and assisted by Sarah Walter.  This will be Mike’s ninth year coaching for the Angels and eleventh year coaching club volleyball.  He has completed Levels I and II of the USA Volleyball Coaches Accreditation Program (CAP), and is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association.   Sarah played for the Angels for 6 years.  She was a 4 year player at Rosati Kain as a setter, and currently attends Maryville University.  This will be Sarah’s third year coaching and she is Impact certified.  The team will practice twice a week and will play 2 to 3 tournaments a month with a possibility of 2 to 3 out of town tourneys, at least one of them being a national qualifier..  Looking for girls with good attitudes and willing to work hard to better their skills.  Their goal is to be very competitive and play in a national tournament at the end of the season.
Girls  15’s
The 15’s team will be coached by Jim Dirkers and Ken Krus.  This is their fourth  year with this team. Jim has coached volleyball for 17 years, 12 years at the CYC level and 7 years with club teams.  He is CAP I certified.  He will be assisted by Ken Krus, co-director of the club.  Ken has coached multiple youth sports and has assisted with volleyball for several years.  He is IMPACT certified. The coaches are looking for girls with positive attitudes who not only want to better their skills, but also believe in the team concept.  Girls who are willing to become students of the game while having an enjoyable experience.  This team last year ended up 5th out of 68 teams in the ASICS tourney in Chicago in June.  The team will practice twice a week and play in 2 to 3 tournaments a month, at least one of them being a national qualifier.  Their goal is to be very competitive and play in a national tournament at the end of the season.
Girls 16’s
The coaches will be Mark Sicking and Becca Hofer.  Mark has earned his CAP I & CAP II certifications and is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association.   This is Mark’s third year coaching with the Angels and had coached club for five years prior to joining us. This is Becca's first year coaching club.  She is a current member of the Maryville University volleyball team and played for Florissant Valley CC before that. She is Impact certified. The coaches are committed to teaching volleyball in a positive and fun way.  They are looking for interested players with a positive attitude who like to compete against good competition, and have fun while doing so.  They plan is to play in at least one national qualifying tournament and, hopefully, a national tournament at the end of the year.
Girls  18’s
The 17’s team will be coached by Ron Kohring .  This is Ron’s sixth year with the team and he is Impact certified.  Ron has had successful coaching experiences in multiple sports including soccer, basketball, softball and baseball at both the CYC and club level.  We are looking for dedicated hard working players that equate fun with team success first.  We will practice two nights a week and participate in twelve or more tournaments during the course of the season.  The team will travel to one or more, but will not exceed three out of town tournaments during the course of the season.

Our goal is to develop the strongest teams possible in each age group, enabling us to compete in both "Open" and/or "Club" divisions at both qualifying and national tournaments.
At the same time, our 10 & under girls program is strictly focused on player development. Our goal here is to introduce athletes to the sport of volleyball while teaching basic skills in an atmosphere of fun and sportsmanship. (More information below.)

Founded in 1987, the St. Louis CYC Volleyball Club has competed successfully at the highest levels locally, regionally and nationally for more than 20 years.  Over the past six seasons, 71 CYC teams have qualified to compete in the USAV Junior National Championships.  Our awards and honors include numerous Gateway Region Gold Division Champions, AAU National Champions, Asics Junior National Champions, USAV Qualifier Champions, and USAV Junior National Champions.  Additionally, many of our players have been recognized for outstanding play by being named to All-Tournament Teams or named as Tournament MVPs.  Many former players competed or are currently competing at the collegiate level (NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA) on scholarship, including more than 40 CYC athletes from the past three seasons.  In 2009, nine CYC teams competed at the USAV Junior National Championships in Miami, FL.  Our 12 Blue and 13 Green teams both won the Bronze medal in their divisions.  Three CYC teams chose to compete at the JVDA National Championships in Louisville, KY while one team played in the AAU National Championships in Orlando, FL.

St. Louis CYC Volleyball Club - 10 & Under Program
As a developmental program, proper techniques are emphasized and advanced strategies are introduced. In addition, a low player-to-coach ratio ensures a high degree of individual player attention. This program, now in its thirteenth year, has been well received and very popular. Participants wishing to tryout for the 10 & under program need not have previous volleyball experience. Info about our 10-U program can be found on our web site.
Budget and Expenses Information (excludes 10-U program):
- An initial payment of $350 per player (11U-18U) is due at the Club Registration Meeting (held within one week of tryouts). This money will be used for player, coach and chaperone USAV registrations and background screens, tournament entry fees, gym rental, coaches' reimbursements, administrative fees (postage, office supplies and expenses), and equipment fees (balls, carts, first aid kits, etc.).
-  Uniforms must be purchased separately and include jerseys and/or t-shirts, shorts, and a warm-up suit (approximate cost $135-$195, depending on age group).
- Itemized invoices will be issued based on the expected/scheduled team activity for the season.  A mandatory team parent meeting will be held to choose the amount and type of travel tournaments.  The estimated total cost (including travel tournament entry fees and coaches' travel expenses) will then be divided into 4 or 5 equal payments (parent option at commitment date) with the first payment due on either Dec. 15 or Jan. 15, depending on payment plan selected.  Total seasonal expenses per player can range from $500-$2000, depending on the frequency of practices, amount and types of tournaments entered, number of travel tournaments, and participation in optional fundraisers.  Each player's account must be paid in full before the 2010 Gateway Region Championships.  Travel, food, and lodging for the player and her family are NOT included in the totals above.
- Individual player’s money is NOT used to support or supplement other teams within the Club. Teams are self-sufficient. Teams/individuals may voluntarily participate in fundraising activities that can substantially reduce the player’s total expenses for the season. Fundraising money earned by individuals will be credited to that player’s account.
- Any money remaining in a player's account at the end of the season will be refunded to that player.
Tryout Information:
Please check the girl's tryout page for specifics.
- St. Louis CYC offers FREE online registration for tryouts.  This will reduce your wait time the day of tryouts.  Visit our web site at www.stlouiscycvball.org for more information.  Follow the step-by-step instructions to complete your registration.  Online registration is a convenience for you, not a requirement.
- If online registration is not used, both required forms (USAV Junior Tryout Waiver and St. Louis CYC tryout form) are available on our web page to print and complete in advance.
- All participants will be charged a $10.00 tryout fee
- A parent or guardian signature is required on the USAV Junior Tryout Waiver.
- St. Louis CYC does not grant age waivers in any age group. Please refer to the USAV guidelines for the Junior Age Definitions for the current season.
- Please contact us in advance if our tryout time conflicts with or overlaps another tryout that you would like to attend.  We will work with you to provide an alternate time if possible.  It is our belief that players should have the opportunity to tryout for more than one club if desired.

Level of Competition:
Competitive. We choose to field only one team at each age level, preferring to be a
small, select, and elite Club. The Club attracts players and coaches from throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. We will be adding a Girl’s 11’s team each year until a full program of teams for ages 11-18 is established. The Club competes in Gateway Region and USA Volleyball Gold/Silver events only. Our teams historically play among the most difficult schedules in the Region. They are required to play in Gateway Region and USAV-sponsored events such as Seeding Tournaments, the Gateway Girl’s Festival, and the Gold/Silver Regional Championships. Following the Regional Championships, we expect all teams age 12 and up to play in either the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic National Championships (Nationals), or American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Junior Volleyball Association/Amateur Athletic Union Championships (JVA/AAU). We require these because we believe that players improve their skills by playing against better competition. We do not accept waivered players. We request that players confirm that they are eligible to play for a particular team before coming to a tryout. The 2009-10 birthday eligibility information may be found on the “Tryouts” link of our website, www.stlpowerhitters.com. In addition to competing at the highest levels, we expect players, parents, and coaches to exhibit a comparable level of sportsmanship. We require players and parents to sign and abide by a Code of Conduct, and for coaches to follow a Code of Ethics. All coaches are IMPACT certified at a minimum.
Awards and Honors Achieved by Club:
In our first year as a co-ed program in 2006-07, the 11’s finished 3rd in the Gold Division. In 2007-08, the Girl’s 11’s and 12’s each won 3rd place in the Gold Division at the Regional Championships. The 12’s participated in the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic National Championships held in Dallas, Texas. In 2008-09 the 12’s, 13’s, and 14’s all reached the Gold Division at the Regional Championships, and the 11’s finished 2nd in the Zinc Division. The Club was a major presence at the 34th Annual Asics National Championships in Chicago in June 2009. Among 350 teams, the 13’s reached the Gold playoffs, the 12’s won the Silver Division, and the 14’s won the Bronze Division. The 12’s reached the Gold Division (top 16) at the JVDA Championships. Additional Club highlights may be found at the “Achievements” link on our website.
Locations Used for Practice:
The Club has historically utilized public and private facilities in the Rockwood, Lindbergh, Mehlville/Oakville, Fox/Seckman, and Webster Groves School Districts for tryouts, practices, and clinics. Practices begin on or about December 1 of each year. All information regarding tryouts, practices, clinics, and tournaments may be found on the “Facilities” and “Calendar” links on our website, www.stlpowerhitters.com.
Budget and Expense Information:
The St. Louis Powerhitters Volleyball Club is a non-profit, tax-exempt Missouri corporation. In keeping with our not-for-profit status, we strive to keep fees reasonable, while providing our players and coaches with quality equipment and facilities. We are exempt from federal taxes under the Internal Revenue Code, and have a Missouri Department of Revenue sales tax exemption. The sales tax exemption permits us to purchase uniforms, equipment, supplies and clothing at lower costs, thereby saving players and parents money. The Club fee for 2009-10 is $690.00. The fee is all-inclusive. Unlike many clubs, the fee includes coaches’ expenses for out-of-town tournaments; we do not charge players extra for the coaches’ travel, lodging, or tournament entry fees, gym rentals, or other costs. The Club has a travel policy that defines what expenses the Club will pay for and those it will not; the policy also places limits on housing, food, transportation, and incidental expenses. In addition, we do not require players or parents to engage in fundraising events to offset expenses, or require that they donate goods or services. We believe that this represents a considerable value to players and parents. Travel, food, lodging, and miscellaneous expenses for players and family members are not included in the Club fee. Club fees are used for player, coach, chaperone, and team official’s USAV and Gateway Region registrations and background screens; coaching education and stipends; tournament entry fees; gym rentals; equipment (volleyballs, volleyball carts, first aid kits, etc.); and administrative expenses (website maintenance, postage, office supplies, etc.). We also offer optional fitness and jump training. Additional information may be found at the “FAQ,”“Fees & Uniforms,” and “Club Comparisons” links on our website, www.stlpowerhitters.com.
Uniforms:
Uniforms must be purchased separately. Uniforms consist of two Asics jerseys (white and maroon), Asics black shorts, and Asics white crew socks. All players provide their own white kneepads and primarily white/gray volleyball shoes. Uniform costs range from $60-$100 per player depending upon the style and quantity ordered. Powerhitters logo clothing and equipment,  such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and gym bags, may also be purchased. Additional information regarding uniforms may be found on the “Fees & Uniforms” link of our website, and clothing information on the “Clothing” link at www.stlpowerhitters.com. Order forms for both may found at the “Documents” link to our website.

NEW FOR 2009-2010
Team Momentum has signed an exclusive lease to conduct the majority of its activities at its main Town & Country gym. The gym has been the Club's principal location since 2006 and is now the Club's exclusive facility. This allows Team Momentum to offer its players the best volleyball training and competition environment in the area. The two court gym has a newly refinished floor, a Club pro shop for players to purchase volleyball apparel and equipment at discounted prices, and a training area separate from the competition courts for specialty training. The club has installed new volleyball equipment and video analysis computers to improve player training and college recruitment.
Players and parents will also enjoy the new facility’s wifi, lounge area, designated lockers for player practice gear, and meeting rooms. The Club’s consistent practice location in convenient West County makes scheduling and car pools easier. The gym is easily accessible, just off of highway 40 near 141.
Additional information about the new facility will be available on the Club’s web site.
Tournaments offered at the facility will help to keep club fees essentially unchanged from last season.

The club places a strong emphasis on quality training to prepare our players to compete at the highest levels possible. The club brings in additional coaches to do specific position training.  Additional current college players will be brought in to assist in training and coaching.

Budget and Expense Information:
The club has strived to keep fees reasonable while still providing quality gyms and resources for players and coaches. The club has signed an exclusive lease for two court facility in West County, has invested in new training equipment, and provides extensive coach and team support, specialty coaches, coach stipends and expenses, and college recruiting resources. The club enjoys the support of several sponsors and engages in limited fundraising to keep fees affordable. Financial information is available on our web site. See www.momentumvolleyball.com

Team Momentum recognizes the importance of convenience, as well as quality, for practice facilities. As described above, all of our training this year will take place at the Westminster Town & Country location conveniently located near the HWY-40 and HWY-270 intersection at Maryville Center Drive.  At that location we will have two competition courts for training, practice, and tournament play as well as a training court where individual skills, agility and strength training will be addressed.  The facility also offers locker rooms, a pro shop, classrooms, office space and meeting space to house all of our operations under one roof.
